Hannah has had a deep love for movement since she was a young girl. This love and desire to move guided her to begin dancing, and she spent much of her younger years in the studio or on stage. She continued her dance career at the University of Oregon and her curiosity of therapeutic movement and wellness started to blossom. She moved to Hawaii and began studying yoga and pilates and followed this study to Bali where she became a certified yoga instructor. When she returned, she began teaching right away. She seized every opportunity to teach and learn all that she could, and quickly began teaching fitness classes of nearly every variety. Soon, her passion for movement had a much bigger scope. She has spent the last decade teaching yoga and fitness classes in her home state of Oregon, and avidly learning about all thing's wellness. She became a certified Nutritional Therapy Practitioner in 2017 and started working with clients privately, and leading retreats and workshops that encompassed all her passions. She learned that she had a knack for organizing and leading and knew that was the direction she wanted to move. She loves working with the community and holding space for individuals to share and grow. She has a vision of sharing her passion for wellness with all that are curious to live a vibrant healthy life and support them on their journey. NCRD is the perfect place for her to connect, share and grow with this community, and join them as they discover the joy that resides in caring for oneself.
Wendy has had a lifelong passion for physical fitness. She was first introduced to Pilates in 2007, when she discovered the Winsor Pilates Reformer Machine and video series. Wendy was hooked instatally to the movement of Pilates and the reward of core strength it added to her body. In the summer of 2015, Wendy and her family moved from San Diego to Manzanita. She then found NCRD and joined the Core Pilates class. Wendy gained a new appreciation for mat Pilates, much different from the reformer work she had been doing for years. She attended that class like clockwork and soon was asked to take over the class because the instructor became injured. Wendy has always been open to new experiences and this felt like a great one. By November of 2017, she became a certified Spencer Pilates Instructor. Wendy was dedicated to keeping the structure of the Core Pilates class while also bringing in new material. In 2018, she launched a second class Pyflow. A class with more physical demand of the flow of movement and incorporating core Pilates routines. The strong energy that Wendy brings to her class is contagious. She has genuine love for helping people achieve their full potential, within an effective class experience. Wendy believes that strengthening the body and mind have a direct impact on one’s overall happiness. You will leave her class with your “Pilates Smiles On,” and be awaiting the next class.
Gina believes when people find fitness fun they are more likely to reach their personal fitness goals. Her passion is to help people fall in love with fitness and find the joy in the process. The results will follow! She has worked at NCRD Fitness Department since 2013 and is local to the area. Gina is a NESTA certified Group Exercise Instructor. In 2017, she took over Boot Camp and Group Strength classes. With her wide smiles and ever so positive attitude, Gina is one of the most energetic and enthusiastic people you will ever meet! She believes that exercise is always fun and all her classes are structured that way. Gina ensures that you have a great workout experience, with abundant joy, and you will leave class with a boosted morale! When Gina is not working, she is an avid equestrian. Her horses Kayla and Beans are her heart and soul, with the exception of her beloved Sammy (a miniature pinscher ) . Her love of animals is almost equivalent to her love of fitness.
Kathye has always had a passion for fitness. What started as childhood sports quickly turned into a love for running and weightlifting. Having already held an ISSA personal training certificate, Kathye joined us as an ACE certified group fitness instructor and assistant fitness director in 2008. There she taught classes ranging from step and group strength to morning core and boot camp. She really fell in love with one-on-one personal training. Kathye left us in 2011 for an overseas firefighting job. She spent her summers as a wildland firefighter. Kathye had been back in the area raising her three children and running a small personal training studio out of her house since 2013. She is eager to get back into spinning and reconnect with the community!
Tara, growing up in Colorado, has always loved and participated in multiple activities. She played the full gamut of sports in school from swim team, softball, basketball, rugby, indoor soccer, rock climbing, cycling, and weightlifting. While living overseas she satisfied her love for sport with ultimate frisbee, running, and the occasional baseball game. Since becoming a mother, she has found a new love for correctional fitness, and cycling. In the past few years, she has joined her husband as the NCRD Taekwondo instructor, and since getting her group fitness certification she has been teaching a variety of fitness classes. She has a heart and passion for sharing practical, functional movement with people so they can have a lifetime of health and happiness.
Michele Churchill began weight lifting in 2013 and became hooked. What was once intimidating instead grew into a passion. While always active with hiking, tennis, Zumba and dog walks, weight lifting provided a motivator for consistent work outs. In 2015, Michele began taking yoga classes at Core Power Yoga in Portland, which had a profound impact on her life. One class offered by the studio combined Hot Yoga, Strength Training and High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). Although the class proved challenging, students and teachers provided inspiration and support for one another, making the experience rewarding both physically and mentally. The experience was so fulfilling that Michele decided to channel her passion and become a certified instructor in 2019. This new career path was life changing after leaving behind her long-held position as a Juvenile Probation Officer for over 20 years. While Michele has been a part time member of the local coastal community for 14 years, she has consistently attended and utilized the offerings of the NCRD Fitness Center. She is now a full-time resident, as well as an NCRD instructor, and is excited to share her fitness class with the local community. She encourages her students to take every opportunity to try something new, challenge themselves to grow as individuals, and have fun making friends along the way who share a passion for fitness!
Ryan started martial arts at 11 years old after his parents got tired of him and his older brother acting out Jackie Chan movies in the house. Kelly has a passion for health and wellness that came to fruition in her early twenties. She worked in a health food store for over a decade while in and out of community college as she decided what path to take in life. During that time, she fell in love with the philosophy that “movement is medicine” and spent her free time hiking, biking, trail running, attending group cross-fit classes, dancing and challenging herself to do all the things that felt impossible. She trained hard and completed multiple half marathons on trails and roads along with some other obstacle races, earning a handful of medals that she is very proud of. In late 2024, she will be completing her BS in Public Health- Community Health Promotion- from the OHSU-PSU School of Public Health. She is currently serving on the Board of Directors with the Nehalem Bay Health District which has brought her joy as it aligns with her passions. Kelly feels strongly that healing herself helps to heal the world and she is grateful to be a part of the health and wellness community on the North Oregon coast.
Nancy's desire to stay healthy grew into a passion for fitness. Shortly after joining a gym and attending group classes, a love for fitness started to grow. She had hoped that that she would be able to learn how to be a group fitness instructor one day. Several years later, that hope became a reality. In 2009, the gym she attended was advertising for instructors and they encouraged members to try out. After taking the workshop training, she auditioned 2 weeks later and was hired. She started by teaching Strength Endurance with weights and Spin followed shortly afterwards. Since that time, she has attended numerous worship trainings and has taught a wide variety of classes - classes ranging from Step, Abs and Barbell classes to Spin an Yoga. Among her certifications, she has 200 RYT in Vinyasa Yoga, which took her 3 years to complete. An appreciation for flow of movement and learning to let go of things you can’t control has been the motivation to never give up. Nancy believes that no matter what exercise you do, choose something you enjoy. This will motivate you to stay with it and reach your goals. No mater what she teaches, she brings her dedication and love for fitness.
Libby began studying movement practices such as yoga, qigong and tai chi in the early 90’s when she became a massage therapist. She found that moving her body in these ways brought balance to the tensions that built up from performing bodywork on others. She experienced how these forms of self-care were also helping her recover from physical traumas from car accident injuries she sustained at an early age and are also essential keys that help to keep her healthy being a 2x’s cancer thriver. She studied qigong and tai chi at Embrace the Moon School for taichijuan and qigong in Seattle. She is also a certified Dancing For Birth™ Instructor and Trainer. As a longevity and anti-cancer health and wellness coach, Libby loves to share movements and inner breath and body awarenesses that bring tone, circulation, balance and vitality to our everyday lives leading us to happier, longer lives with a better health span within. She hopes to see you on the fitness floor.
